We were honored with a recent visit from Pastor Carlos and Vilma.

CRISTO REY UPDATE
We received the following letter from Pastor Carlos of our sister parish Cristo Rey Lutheran Church in Santa Ana, El Salvador.

God bless you, and the whole congregation,
I am sorry that I do not have good news.  Since October 1 we have been in a state of emergency with many problems.  On Saturday, October 1, the mountain Ilamatepec of Santa Ana volcano became active, throwing ashes, stones and magma and fire that came down the sides of the mountain causing pain, death and destruction.

All the houses close to the volcano were burned by fire and incandescent stones.  The school in San Blas close to the volcano is also under stones and magma.  All of the crops of corn, beans, coffee and all kinds of trees and birds, oxen and horses were burned in the fire.  A team from the church including Vilma, Iris, and Fernando were with the families from San Blas helping them abandon their homes.

There is a major risk for families still near the volcano.  Thousands are refugees in different places.  In Cristo Rey we have refuge families.  They have only what they could carry in haste down the mountain. Many are old people, women and children in need of clothing, food, shoes, beds, medicine and toys.

Please we need your help because these people have no place to go.  They have no clothing or houses, just their lives and we do not have enough to help them.  I am sorry to say this but we need to support these families that today are suffering.  God will pay you for your solidarity.  Besides the volcano we are suffering the rain caused by the hurricane.  There are over 40,000 refugees in the country with 60 known deaths.  We will be in communication.  Please pray for us.
